Posterior Deltoid

The primary function of the posterior deltoid is extension, rotation, and moving the arm outwards like a pulling motion.

Common Symptoms

  • Pain in the muscle at the front of the shoulder
  • Bruising, swelling, and loss of mobility in the muscle
  • Pain in the muscle when moving the arm out and upwards

Common Causes

  • Improper stretching before exercise
  • Office work when your keyboard is incorrectly positioned causing excessive strain on your shoulders
  • Overusing the muscle without enough rest between uses
  • Baseball, skiing, weightlifting, & swimming
