Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus Lumborum is a set of muscles on both sides of the spine, and integral to core movement and spinal stability.

Common Symptoms

  • Persistant deep aching pain in the lower-back
  • Difficulty bending forward
  • Difficulty ascending stairs
  • Pain when getting up from a sitting position
  • Refered pain in the following areas
  • Gluteal muscles and down the thigh
  • Outside of the hip
  • Front of the abdomen
  • Groin area

Common Causes

  • Overuse and overloading of the muscle
  • Repetitive movements like gardening, weight lifting, & golf
  • Walking or running on uneven surfaces
  • Sudden/quick movements like lifting or trauma
